Analogues of nitrilotriacetic acid, and the stabilities of their proton and metal complexes

Abstract

The synthesis of some new analogues of nitrilotriacetic acid is described, and values for their acid dissociation constants and for the stability of 1 : 1 complexes formed with Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+, Ba2+, and Zn2+ are reported, valid for 20·0° and an ionic strength of µ= 0·1M(potassium chloride). The results are discussed in relation to data for analogous complexones, with special reference to inductive and steric factors.
