Molecular-orbital theory of organometallic compounds. Part VI. Substitution reactions of some tricarbonylarenechromiums

Abstract

The kinetics of the nucleophilic substitution of some tricarbonylhalogenobenzenechromiums by methoxide ion in methanol are reported. The reaction is shown to be a typical SN2 displacement and the enhanced reactivity of the π-complex relative to the free halogenobenzene is in accord with previous theoretical predictions. Recent studies of electrophilic substitution of these complexes are also discussed.
