Electronic and electron paramagnetic resonance spectra and metal–ligand bonding of VF4

Abstract

The electronic and EPR spectra of the tetragonally compressed VF62– complex present in VF4 have been recorded. Transitions to the levels derived from the 2Eg state of the parent octahedral complex occur in the visible region, while those between components of the 2T2g ground state occur in the infrared region. Angular-overlap and molecular-orbital Xα calculations are presented and compared with previous results for other complexes.
