Interfacial coupling of transition-metal composites with nitrogen-doped carbon as efficient catalysts of hydrogenation of nitro compounds

Abstract

A general strategy for developing nitro compounds hydrogenation catalysts, involving constructing interfaces of transition-metal compounds with nitrogen-doped carbon, is proposed. The interfacial bonds in the developed catalysts can modulate the electronic structure of active sites, and hence significantly expose the active sites and enhance mass transport. Specifically, optimal Cr2O3/NC, Mo2C/NC, V2O3/NC and WOx/NC catalysts provide impressive performances with a conversion rate of 99% and a nearly 100% selectivity for hydrogenating nitro compounds.
