Polymeric polyiodo-chlorotellurates(iv): new supramolecular hybrids in halometalate chemistry

Abstract

Reaction between TeO2 and I2 in HCl afforded a series of supramolecular hybrids Cat2{[TeCl6](I2)} (1–5) where diiodine fragments are linked to [TeCl6]2− octahedra via halogen bonds (XB). The compounds were characterized using X-ray diffraction, revealing one- and two-dimensional anionic motifs built via I⋯Cl supramolecular interactions. Features of non-covalent interactions were studied via quantum chemistry methods and Raman spectroscopy. Compounds 1–3 showed relatively narrow band gaps of 1.50–1.59 eV.
