Performance enhancement of inverted perovskite solar cells using a GlyHCl additive

Abstract

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are expected to be a part of the next-generation photovoltaic technology owing to their low-cost fabrication process as well as a power conversion efficiency (PCE) that is comparable to that of conventional Si-based solar cells. The quality of a perovskite film is critical for the performance of the resultant PSCs, which can be optimized by a delicate processing control. Herein, we present a unique strategy to modulate the crystal growth of perovskite films by introducing a low-cost and environment-friendly additive, GlyHCl, which leads to the selective growth of the (001) facet and an elongated carrier lifetime, and consequently enhances the photovoltaic performance of the device fabricated with the perovskite films. In addition, PEAI is introduced as a co-additive to passivate the defects in the bulk of the perovskite films. The convenient co-additive strategy results in the highest PCE of 23.8% for inverted PSCs, accompanied by a substantial improvement in device stability.
