Single-crystal-to-single-crystal desolvation in a Ti32 nanoring cluster

Abstract

The structures of Ti-oxo clusters were thought to be rigid given the high stability of Ti–O–Ti bonds. A Ti32-oxo nanoring, Ti322-O)83-O)8(L)16(gly)32(glyH)16·12(glyH2)·29(IPA) (L = 4-aminobenzoic acid, glyH2 = ethylene glycol, IPA = isopropanol) (1), experiences an unexpected single-crystal-to-single-crystal desolvation process upon exposure to air, affording another new crystalline phase Ti32-oxo cluster (1-Dry) with a shrunk ring size.
