Structure of carbanions having carbocations as counterions

Abstract

The first X-ray structural analysis of a carbanion having a carbocation as the counterion, [EtC(CO2Me)2]C[(NMe2)3]+ is reported, showing unusual hydrogen bonding between the carbanion and the methyl groups of the carbocation.
