Titrimetric methods for the determination of some sulpha drugs using N-bromophthalimide and N-bromosaccharin

Abstract

Two titrimetric methods using N-bromophthalimide (NBP) and N-bromosaccharin (NBSA) have been developed for the determination of some sulpha drugs such as Antrima, Elkosin, Las, Madribon, Orisul, Septran, sulphaguanidine, Urolucosil and two laboratory-made tablets of pure sulphaguanidine and pure sulphacetamide. In these methods the sulphonamides present in the drugs are determined via bromination using NBP or NBSA. Both the proposed methods are direct visual titration methods and are more simple than, and superior to, the existing methods for the determination of sulpha drugs.
