The new Cavitron SPS from Dentsply

The Cavitron Select SPS new unit combines all the portability of the Cavitron Select, with the patented, 30k Sustained Performance System (SPS) technology of the existing Cavitron SPS.

The new 30k Cavitron Select SPS is one of the smallest units in the market and is completely portable, as long as there is access to a power supply. Dentsply claims its internal reservoir allows the end user to perform ultrasonic scaling without an external water connection.

Dentsply claims the reservoir can be filled with water or rinsing solutions e.g., sodium hypochlorite (1:10), without dismantling the unit. The Sterimate handpiece is fully autoclavable, thus minimising the risk of cross infection.

An initiative for staff

Steradent have launched 'Spotlight on denture health', an initiative designed specifically for hygienists to highlight the importance of promoting denture care in practice.

Steradent claims that while there is always plenty of focus on promoting oral health to those with full dentition, denture wearers often do not receive the same attention. So to help promote twice daily brushing Steradent have launched this initiative.

To become part of the initiative, hygienists are asked to illustrate in 1,500 words or less, how they promote denture care in practice; whether this is by specially produced leaflets, training sessions or even a denture club. The winner of 'Spotlight on denture health' will win £200.

Oral-B and Nobel Biocare help the patient

Successful implant maintenance requires commitment from the patient. Plaque control must be of the highest standard in order to preserve the long-term success of the treatment.

To help patients Oral-B has joined forces with Nobel Biocare to produce a range of educational material designed to address any fears patients might have concerning implants, as well as explaining the routine for after-care.

Included in the material are a waiting room brochure, a step-by-step chairside guide and a poster. Oral-B also offers a range of power-assisted toothbrushes that Oral-B claims can be especially helpful to patients with poor dexterity.

Another great Swedish export

TePe is the Swedish oral health portfolio from Molar. As a result of feedback from its professional user groups, Molar has introduced the Proximal brush - the TePe on a handle.

Molar claims the TePe handheld interdental brushes are popular with UK hygienists. The handle works very well for less dextrous patients, but is equally suitable for very able patients who simply prefer the leverage a longer handle gives them.

The Proximal refill brushes come in the same seven colour-coded sizes as the TePe handheld interdental brush range. Sizes range from the 0.4mm pink brush to the 1.1mm purple brush to cope with every patient's needs. A click head ensures trouble-free refill changes and once the head is locked into place, it will not be able to move.
