Life Membership

Professor Stanley Gelbier has been presented with the honour of Life Membership of the Lindsay Society. Professor Gelbier was presented with his Life Membership Certificate at the Annual Lindsay Memorial Lecture, held at the British Dental Conference and Exhibition in Manchester.

Outreach Prize for Dentistry

Kristian Davies has been awarded the Cardiff University Outreach Prize for Dentistry. Each year a BDS undergraduate student from Cardiff is selected to receive this award in recognition of outstanding achievement in the final year of the course. Kristian received an engraved handpiece at Cardiff's newly opened Primary Dental Care Unit in Mountain Ash.

Seville professorship

Berkshire-based aesthetic and reconstructive dental surgeon Dr Bob Khanna was officially inaugurated as a Visiting Professor of Maxillofacial Surgery at Seville University, Spain, in May. At 41, Dr Khanna is one of the university's youngest senior academics and will run lecture programmes at the Seville campus for postgraduate students, doctors, dentists and plastic surgeons.

OBE for services to dental and oral health

Dr Nigel Carter, Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation since 1997, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours. Dr Carter trained as a dentist at Birmingham University and also has his own practice in Birmingham.
