Abstract
Cortical organization shifts after sensory deprivation, but the reversibility of this reorganization has not been studied. Here, using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), we investigated the dynamics of cortical reorganization in a patient's motor cortex before and after bilateral hand transplantation. We found that amputation-induced cortical reorganization was reversed following hand transplantation.
