Abstract
The relationship between protein dispensability and rate of evolution that we detected in yeast1 has since been confirmed among bacteria2 — as well as in the same data set3,4 that Pal et al. refer to as “new fitness data” and which they re-analyse here using methods that fail to reveal the relationship.
