The ring systems of Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus

Abstract

THE recent direct observation by the Voyager spacecraft of a ring around Jupiter1 makes a comparison between the jovian ring and the rings of Saturn and Uranus possible, and leads to certain conclusions about their origins which are reported here.
