Enhancement of cerebral noradrenaline turnover by thyrotropin-releasing hormone

Abstract

THYROTROPIN-RELEASING hormone (TRH) (pyroglutamyl-histidyl-proline-amide) has been reported to ameliorate mental depression1,2. The mechanism of action of the tripeptide in this condition is unknown. It may be connected with changes in the activity of noradrenergic or 5-hydroxytryptaminergic neurons which are thought to be involved in depressive states3,4. Therefore, we have investigated the action of TRH on the turnover of biogenic amines in rat brain.
