Multiple Molecular Species of Circular R-factor DNA isolated from Escherichia coll

Abstract

Using a rapid one-step method, circular DNA has been isolated from a strain of E. coli harbouring the R-factor R-1 and shown to contain at least two separate classes of covalently closed molecules. Evidence is presented for the stable existence of circular R-factor in E. coli.
