Hypothesis for the Aggregation of Platelets by Nucleotides

Abstract

WHEN describing the highly specific action of adenosine diphosphate on the aggregation and adhesiveness of human platelets, it was reported that deoxyadenosine diphosphate was the only other nucleotide which exhibited this effect. On a weight basis this nucleotide had only 0.3 per cent of the activity of ADP. However, as a substance with biological activity, the amount required (7 µg/ml.) for aggregation was still very small1.
