X-Ray Diffraction Measurement of Radiation Damage in Stretched Rubber

Abstract

Bopp and Sisman1 have mentioned that X-ray diffraction revealed a loss of crystallinity in a specimen of natural rubber irradiated to 107 r. in a reactor while stretched 300 per cent. During a study of radiation damage to elastomers, we have also observed the extreme sensitivity of stretched rubber to radiation.
