Crustal Structure across the Permian Oslo Graben from Gravity Measurements

Abstract

The Oslo region has subsided into the surrounding Precambrian shield. The magmatic and tectonic activity in the graben seems to have culminated in and largely been restricted to the Lower Permian. Because the Oslo Graben represents an old generation of rifting it is of interest in the light of recent theories of geotectonics to compare this area with active rift systems. A preliminary discussion of the crustal structure based on long-wavelength gravity anomalies and using seismic data1,2 is presented.
