Basal Level of Neurotransmitter Synthesizing Enzymes and Effect of Cyclic AMP Agents on the Morphological Differentiation of Isolated Neuroblastoma Clones

Abstract

CYCLIC AMP appears to be involved in the differentiation of neuroblastoma cells in culture 1-5. We report the isolation of at least four types of clones from mouse neuroblastoma cell culture, (a) Clone with tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) but without choline acetyltransferase (ChA); (b) clone with ChA but without TH; (c) clone with both TH and ChA; and (d) clone lacking both TH and ChA. The relative sensitivity of various clones to dibutyryl cyclic AMP (dbcAMP), prostaglandin (PG) E1, and 4-(3-butoxy-4-methoxybenzyl)-2-imidazolidinone (RO20-1724) in causing morphological differentiation is also described.
