Is the Area Postrema a Control Centre of Blood Pressure?

Abstract

SEVERAL antihypertensive drugs have a central site of action1. The anatomical structures involved are unknown but there is evidence that some areas in the vicinity of the fourth brain ventricle mediate their effects1. Also in the region of the fourth ventricle noradrenaline2–6 and γ-aminobutyric acid7 bring about a depression of the cardiovascular system.
