Catecholamines of the Allantoic Fluid in the Developing Chick Embryo

Abstract

ADRENERGIC tissue appears at an early stage in the development of the embryo1 and, in the adult animal, this tissue is the primary source of the catecholamines2. It would be reasonable to inquire whether, during embryogenesis, the activities of developing organs might be influenced by the presence of catecholamines. Finding Catecholamines in the allantoic fluid would suggest their presence in the circulatory system and provide indirect evidence of the beginnings of both synthetic and secretory activity of the adrenergic tissues.
