Metallurgist Aims and scope

Abstract

An analysis is made of trends and scientific-technical problems in the development of new cross-cutting shears (CCSs) for cutting flat-rolled products. The modernization of existing shears of this type is also included in the analysis. The article examines the main types of flying shears and electromagnetic plate stackers that have been designed by All-Russia Scientific Research, Planning, and Design Institute of Metallurgical Machinery (VNIImetmash) together with machine builders and metallurgical plants for use in CCSs. Specific equipment designs are discussed along with current developments in the modernization of existing flying shears and electromagnetic stackers. The article also reports on results obtained from commercial use of the equipment.
