Inhibition Effect of Schiff Bases on Steel Hydrogenation in H2S-Containing Media

Abstract

The inhibition effect of Schiff bases and their formulations on the hydrogenation and corrosion behavior of 70C2XA and Cт3 steels in H2S-containing media, including those containing carbon dioxide, was studied. It was found that CO2 does not increase steel hydrogenation, but influences the protective properties of inhibitors. Steel absorbs hydrogen equally both in the aqueous and vapor phases. Under the described conditions, the Schiff bases studied, as well as their formulations, provide no worse and sometimes even better protection against hydrogenation and corrosion, compared with industrially used inhibitors.
