Abstract
Erythromycin production dynamics in stirred, baffled shaken and non-baffled shaken flasks was strongly correlated with the different distributions of hyphal particle diameters observed. Production only took place when hyphal fragments with diameters greater than 88 μm were observed. Results are consistent with significant hyphal breakage rates, even in non-baffled shaken flasks.
