The pH of the solution was then adjusted to 9.10 by adding dropwise (∼ 0.1 mL/drop) 3.0 M NaOH and measuring the pH with a calibrated WTW model 526 Microprocessor pH-mv-meter, WTW, Inc., Vienna, Austria.

The instrument has been calibrated by the Shimadzu representative for the past several years (as well as during these measurements) and was well within the claimed uncertainties.
