Abstract
Results for elastic compliances of interfacial cracks — quantities that determine change in the overall elastic compliances of a material due to interfacial cracks — are obtained. Such cracks may develop in composite materials as a result of debonding at inclusion/matrix interfaces or at boundaries between layers in layered materials, for example, at film/substrate interfaces. Our method is based on the thermodynamic formalism developed by Rice (1975) and utilization of the available results for the stress intensity factors (SIFs). Compliance contribution tensors of the rectilinear, circular and penny-shaped interfacial cracks are derived in closed form.
