Abstract

The abundances of copper, lead, zinc, nickel, chromium, cobalt, mercury, vanadium, and manganese in eighty three surface soil samples collected from Shenzhen area were determined. The correlation among element contents and the factors affecting the contents were studied using principle component analysis. The factor scores of the first two components were analyzed as regionalized variables using variogram analysis and Kriging. The interpolated factor scores were then mapped to show the common features in spatial distribution of a set of elements with similar geochemical behavior. It was demonstrated that the spatial distribution patterns of parent material in the area are the primary factor governing the spatial variation of the elements.
