Local Dynamics and the Expansion of the Universe

Abstract

A brief history is given of attempts to discover whether the cosmic expansion influences local dynamics. Early work, especially the Einstein–Straus model, suggested that there is no influence, but recently the issue has been reconsidered and now seems open.
