SCHOLASTIC QUESTIONS

Lying on her left side in the brass-quoited bed, “left hand under head, right leg extended in a straight line and resting on left leg” (737), she watches her husband sleep, his feet near her face, his body curled up like a baby, his face near her bottom, “the indexfinger and thumb of the right hand resting on the bridge of the nose” (737). Watching, she considers his unusual request:
