Circadian insights into the biology of depression: Symptoms, treatments and animal models
2019, Behavioural Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :Altogether, these findings suggest that the monoaminergic system is affected by lighting conditions yielding new insights into the role of this neurotransmission system in SAD. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments of depression have an important effect in the rescue of behavioral and physiological rhythms [121–126]. Molecules that have been selected for their efficacy to treat depression are well-known modulators of monoaminergic neurotransmission.
A sham-controlled randomized trial of adjunctive light therapy for non-seasonal depression
2016, Journal of Affective DisordersCitation Excerpt :In trials for the effectiveness of BLT in non-seasonal depression, the exposure was conducted for various periods of time. In some of them, the improvement was observed after a week (Sumaya et al., 2001; Niederhofer and Von Klitzing, 2012) or after 10 days (Wirz-Justice et al., 1999). Benedetti et al. (2003) and Sit et al. (2007) obtained important therapeutic effects after 2 weeks of BLT.
