Injection abscesses due to Mycobacterium chelonei occurring in a diabetic patient

Summary

The case of a young fit diabetic patient who suffered from injection abscesses is presented. Mycobacterium Chelonei var chelonei was the organism responsible. The organism was difficult to isolate, but skin tests yielded valuable results. The abscesses responded to treatment with erythromycin and cotrimoxazole.

Résumé

L'article présente le cas d'un jeune diabétique en bon état, qui a souffert d'abcès aux lieux d'injection. L'agent responsable était M. chelonei var chelonei. Le bacille a été difficile à isoler, mais les tests cutanés ont fourni des résultats de valeur. Les abcès ont bien répondu au traitement avec l'érythromycine et la cotrimoxazole.

Resumen

Se expone el caso de un diabético jóven que presentaba abscesos consecutivos a inyecciones. El micro-organismo responsable era Mycobacterium chelone var chelonei. El micro-organismo fue aislado con dificultad, sin embargo, las pruebas cutáneas dieron resultados considerados como válidos. Los abscesos respondieron al tratamiento con eritromicina y cotrimoxazole.
