Abstract

This paper presents a new relaying scheme based on cross correlation for fault classification in transmission lines connected to wind farm. The proposed method uses voltage signals from one end of the line. The features extracted from the cross-correlogram of the faulty signals are fed to the fuzzy based classifier for fault classification. The scheme is immune to the presence of noise in real time environment, as cross correlation technique minimizes the effect of uncorrelated random noise content in the signal. Also, correlation technique is superior to other conventional methods, as it requires low computational burden, which is desirable for feature extraction in real time system. The simulation result establishes the potential ability of the scheme under different fault resistances and fault inception angles at different fault locations, and also under different stressed conditions within half cycle of fault inception. The performance comparison with different existing techniques reveals the robustness and applicability of the proposed scheme in real time.
