Abstract

As humans continue to add greenhouse gases to the atmosphere, the temperature, chemistry, structure, climate, and height of the oceans are all changing. These changes have profound impacts on the ability of marine organisms to survive, the ability of populations to persist, the evolution of species, and interactions between species. There has therefore been great interest in conservation actions to mitigate these impacts. Available strategies include techniques to prioritize vulnerable species, design marine protected areas, conduct ecosystem-based management, adjust fisheries regulations, and, in some cases, move species to new locations.
