In fact, biotin acts as a coenzyme for carboxylase enzymes, involved in the synthesis of fatty acids, isoleucine, and valine, and in gluconeogenesis [19,20]. If there is insufficient biotin in a higher organism, oxybiotin is the only analog capable of replacing it [21].
