It uses an apparatus that consists of a thin horizontally oriented spinning rod with disks that define test compartments.

2002, Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :Nicergoline can both act by preventing neuronal degeneration induced by a variety of stimuli and by stimulating neural plasticity acting on different intracellular targets mainly in conditions of impaired function (i.e., lesioned animals, aged rats, etc.) [26,74]. Nicergoline is effective in reducing age-dependent severity of behavioral symptoms of vestibular deficit, as evaluated by nystagmus rate and falls in the rotorod test [60]. In the present study the drug indeed was able to reduce the severity of sensory–motor deficits after peripheral vestibular lesion in old rats.
