Reduction of electrotactile perception threshold using subthreshold vibrotactile stimuli
2021, DisplaysCitation Excerpt :Stochastic resonance (SR) is a phenomenon where random noise is added to the subthreshold stimulus to make it perceivable; in other words, the signal to noise ratio of the subthreshold stimuli is increased and makes it suprathreshold [27,28]. Manjarrez et al. [29] showed that SR in mechanical tactile stimuli was detected in humans through electroencephalographic signals. Collins et al. [30,31] demonstrated improvement in the sensory perception of humans by SR.
White noise as a possible therapeutic option for children with ADHD
2019, Complementary Therapies in MedicineCitation Excerpt :Thus, it is proposed that for every individual, some amount of noise is beneficial, and too much or too little is detrimental. SR increases performance along an inverted U shaped curve.60 Because people with ADHD typically have low tonic DA and low internal noise, the MBA model says their SR curve is shifted to the right.
Stochastic resonance in the synaptic transmission between hair cells and vestibular primary afferents in development
2016, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :The preparation was allowed to equilibrate for 30 min before recording. A closed-loop mechanical stimulator-transducer (Chubbuck, 1966; Manjarrez et al., 2002a,b; Mendez-Balbuena et al., 2015) allowed measures of the displacement of the applied stimuli. The output of two independent function generators provided input to the stimulator-transducer (Fig. 1A).
