Current Trends in the Use of Two Combination Antifungal/Corticosteroid Creams
2017, Journal of PediatricsCitation Excerpt :We recommend against the use of combination antifungal/corticosteroid creams because of the greater cost, lower efficacy, and greater risk of adverse effects. Patients with the diagnosis of a cutaneous fungal infection who complain of intense pruritus in association with an infection-induced dermatitis are best treated by simultaneous application of a low- or medium-potency topical corticosteroid for a limited period of 7-10 days, along with a topical antifungal agent that will be continued until clinical findings resolve.13 For diaper dermatitis with confirmed secondary fungal infection, we suggest using a single topical antifungal agent in combination with a barrier cream.
Diagnosis and Management of Diaper Dermatitis
2014, Pediatric Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :Infants also have a relatively higher body surface area-to-volume ratio, making them more prone to absorption of topical medications. Combination products that contain clotrimazole and betamethasone dipropionate or nystatin and triamcinolone acetonide should be avoided and the former is specifically labeled by the FDA not to be used in patients younger than 17 years or in pediatric patients with diaper dermatitis.30 Topical inhibitors of calcineurin were developed for the treatment of mild to moderate (pimecrolimus) or moderate to severe (tacrolimus) atopic dermatitis as a second-line treatment.

2006, Journal of the American Academy of DermatologyCitation Excerpt :In particular, fixed combinations of betamethasone and clotrimazole were frequently prescribed.108 As expected, pediatricians preferred low-potency (56.3%) over high-potency (5%) or medium-potency derivatives (28.7%).107,109 In addition, these combination products tend to be used for diaper rash and are therefore occluded by the diaper.
Mixture of honey, beeswax and olive oil inhibits growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans
2005, Archives of Medical ResearchCitation Excerpt :Beeswax was used as vehicle for preparation of the ointment. Furthermore, olive oil and beeswax application could have beneficial influence on skin lesions (2,16,22). In addition, the contents of the mixture might have a synergistic effect that needs further investigation.
