Patient 1

A 26-year-old man was referred to our hospital with abdominal pain, jaundice, and emesis over a period of 9 hours. There was no history of drug or ethanol abuse. The patient had a history of hepatic hydatidosis for which he had undergone operation 8 and 6 years previously (cystopericystectomy of two cysts in the left lobe and cholecystectomy). DISCUSSION

Hepatic hydatidosis is a common disease in countries where the livestock are guarded by dogs.4 It is endemic in Spain, with an annual incidence of 5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Spontaneous rupture of the hepatic hydatid cyst into the biliary tract occurs in 5% to 17% of the cases.1, 2, 3, 4 Intrabiliary rupture has been classified as either frank perforation with overt passage of hydatid material into the biliary tract or as occult leakage with signs of suppuration alone.2 Rupture of the
