There are many books on atmospheric remote sensing. This chapter revises the clouds shapes, types, and properties and provides a brief review of some of the primary applications of satellite remote sensing of the atmosphere including atmospheric profiling, cloud top temperature, rain rate, atmospheric liquid water, cloud liquid water, and the ground validation using radiosondes and dropsondes.
