Overprediction of species distribution models in conservation planning: A still neglected issue with strong effects
2020, Biological ConservationCitation Excerpt :When SDM are projected on the geographical space, high suitability patches may appear in regions far and possibly unreachable from current species occurrence areas (Fig. 1b). However, distribution patterns of species are commonly constrained by historical and current dispersal events (Munguía et al., 2008; Nathan, 2013). Recently, Mendes et al. (2020), based on a virtual species approach, showed that SDM without any dispersal restriction overestimate up to four times species ranges.
