G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) in rotifers and cladocerans: Potential applications in ecotoxicology, ecophysiology, comparative endocrinology, and pharmacology
2022, Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part - C: Toxicology and PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Therefore, GPCR-acting pharmaceuticals are pollutants of concern in environment monitoring and toxicity testing. Neuropeptides are chemical messengers made up of small chains of peptide sequences, which function in various physiological functions in the nervous system through interacting with membrane receptors (Zupanc, 1996). These membrane receptors are mainly comprised of GPCRs, however, ionotropic receptors are also present.
Exosome: A novel neurotransmission modulator or non-canonical neurotransmitter?

2021, NeuropharmacologyCitation Excerpt :However, CART fibers within the LS can arise from other regions, such as the LH, which also contains CART neurons and sends a strong projection to the LS (Swanson and Cowan, 1979). An alternative possibility is that EW-derived CART is differentially packaged, processed, and/or released in the LS terminal fields, compared with EW-Ucn1 axons innervating the LS (van den Pol, 2012; Zupanc, 1996). Similar to the LS, EW-Ucn1 neurons strongly innervate the DR, particularly in dorsomedial and ventromedial zones, and EW lesions decrease Ucn1 axonal fibers in the DR (Bachtell et al., 2004).
