HIV-associated myasthenia gravis and impacts of HAART: One case report and a brief review
2011, Clinical Neurology and NeurosurgeryCitation Excerpt :Myopathy was not favored according to the electromyography and normal CK level. There have been 13 cases of HIV-associated MG (MG followed HIV infection) reported in the literature [2–13]. Most were reported in the pre-HAART (highly active antiretroviral therapy) era.
Chapter 7 Clinical features of myasthenia gravis
2008, Handbook of Clinical NeurologyCitation Excerpt :Psychiatric disturbance occurs often in MG, in particular adjustment disorders with depressed mood and mixed emotional features, affective disorders and personality disorders (Magni et al., 1988). A small number of patients have been described with onset of MG during the course of HIV infection (Wessel and Zitelli, 1987; Nath et al., 1990; Martini et al., 1991; Tiab et al., 1993; Wullenweber et al., 1993; Authier et al., 1995). Of seven reported patients, four had acetylcholine receptor (AChR) antibodies and five had marked improvement or remission as CD4 counts dropped with progression of AIDS.
