Abstract

1. Acute toxicity tests were carried out at different pH-conditions (pH 4.5, 6.0 and 8.5) on the amphipod Gammarus fossarum Koch.

2. The median period of survival decreased with increasing pH in the presence of Cd.

3. Median lethal concentrations (24, 48 and 96 hr LC50's) indicate that G. fossarum is highly sensitive to Cd at pH 8.5 (96 hr LC50 proved to be 6.2 μg/l).
