Abstract

An iterative scheme for the pomeron is proposed. The first iteration generates diffractive large mass production and is found to explain satisfactorily the rise of σtot at ISR energies. This contribution is represented by a non-vanishing triple pomeron coupling g. Asymptotically the iteration procedure generates a renormalization of the pomeron trajectory that ends up at 1 + g. The Froissart bound is enforced through s-channel absorption. The behaviour of dσel/dt can also be reproduced in the model.
