Abstract

The addition, to the usual set of T=1 bosons, of s and d bosons with T=0 and an intrinsic spin of S=1 leads to a version of the IBM which incorporates the Wigner supermultiplet symmetry.

Quartet structure of N = Z nuclei in a boson formalism: The case of <sup>28</sup>Si

The structure of the $N = Z$ nucleus ²⁸Si is studied by resorting to an IBM-type formalism with s and d bosons representing isospin $T = 0$ and angular momentum $J = 0$ and $J = 2$ quartets, respectively. $T = 0$ quartets are four-body correlated structures formed by two protons and two neutrons. The microscopic nature of the quartet bosons, meant as images of the fermionic quartets, is investigated by making use of a mapping procedure and is supported by the close resemblance between the phenomenological and microscopically derived Hamiltonians. The ground state band and two low-lying side bands, a β and a γ band, together with all known E2 transitions and quadrupole moments associated with these states are well reproduced by the model. An analysis of the potential energy surface places ²⁸Si, only known case so far, at the critical point of the U(5)– $\overline{SU (3)}$ transition of the IBM structural diagram.
Isospin excitation and electromagnetic transition properties of nuclei <sup>88,90</sup>Mo

The band structure and electromagnetic transition properties of the low-lying states of ^88,90Mo isotopes were investigated using the interacting boson model with isospin (IBM-3). The lowest isospin excitation states with $T = 2$ for ⁸⁸Mo and $T = 3$ for ⁹⁰Mo were identified, and compared with available data. The E2, M1 matrix elements and quadrupole moments for the low-lying states were investigated. Results showed that the lowest mixed-symmetry states were $2_{3}^{+}$ for ⁹⁰Mo and $2_{4}^{+}$ for ⁸⁸Mo. The excitation energy of the $1_{1}^{+}$ states in nuclei ^88,90Mo were also determined. Good agreement was achieved between calculated results using the model and measured data.
