2021, Journal of Invertebrate PathologyCitation Excerpt :Modern-day Vibrio studies date to the 19th century when scientists were examining the probable cause for diseases: microbial or miasmatic. In 1854, Filippo Pacini, an Italian scientist isolated Vibrio cholerae using microscopy and proposed that cholera was an infectious disease (Bentivoglio and Pacini, 1995). Many of the Vibrio species can be found in numerous aquatic environments, from rivers, estuaries, seas, to deep-oceanic waters.
