Margin of error for a frameless image guided radiosurgery system: Direct confirmation based on posttreatment MRI scans
2017, Practical Radiation OncologyCitation Excerpt :Precise localization and rigid immobilization are essential to achieve this goal. By applying similar concepts, techniques using linear accelerators were later developed and used by several investigators.2-7 Although the head-ring affixed to the skull provides high accuracy, treatments are often limited to a single fraction because of the head-ring’s invasiveness.
Introduction and Clinical Overview of the DVH Risk Map
2016, Seminars in Radiation OncologyCitation Excerpt :QUANTEC36 provided custom risk levels for each structure—in this issue of Seminars, a compromise is sought between the unified structure of Emami and the precision of QUANTEC. The evolution of SBRT dose-tolerance limits with Gamma Knife,49 linac-based radiosurgery,50-55 the SBRT body frame,56 and the CyberKnife57 all have had clinical usage for at least 20 years. We have attempted to consolidate some elements of that collective 20-year experience into a format comprehensive and convenient for clinical application.
Intensity modulated radiosurgery of brain metastases with flattening filter-free beams
2013, Radiotherapy and OncologyCitation Excerpt :In total, 30 non-coplanar dynamic (sliding window) IMRT (FFF and FF) and 30 non coplanar VMAT (FFF and FF) plans were generated using the treatment planning system (TPS) Monaco 3.3 (Elekta AB, Stockholm, Sweden) with the XVMC Monte Carlo calculation engine. The IMRT plans consisted of 11 beams at 4 different table angles and the VMAT plans consisted of one full rotation and two partial rotations (3 different table angles) [2,5]. For all generated treatment plans (n = 60), the prescriptions to target and possible OAR were identical and the final dose calculation grid size was 2 mm.
Intracranial Stereotactic Radiosurgery. Concepts and Techniques.
2013, Neurosurgery Clinics of North AmericaCitation Excerpt :They gained a place in history as the first physicians to perform radiosurgery using the Linac approach. Their idea was promptly followed in Italy,26 Germany,27 and the United States.28,29 These three reports set the stage for the development of the most accepted and versatile approach to perform radiosurgery today, and for the development of such approaches as the Cyberknife and the TomoTherapy High-Art system.
