Pretreatment anemia is correlated with the reduced effectiveness of radiation and concurrent chemotherapy in advanced head and neck cancer
2005, International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology PhysicsCitation Excerpt :Two approaches have been used. A randomized trial from the Princess Margaret Hospital examined the effect of transfusion in patients with cervix cancer (21). One-hundred and thirty-two Stage IIB and Stage III patients were randomized either to transfusion to maintain an Hgb level of 12.5 mg/dL or higher (experimental arm) or to transfusion only, if the Hgb level declined below 10 mg/dL (control arm).
