Abstract

Continuing our work on the flavonoids of Pinus sylvestris and Pinus uncinata, further analysis of flavonoid variability leads us to suggest the existence of natural hybrids between these two species, because the flavonoid characters of some individuals are inconsistent with their morphology. The hybrids Pinus uncinata X Pinus sylvestris usually show strong affinities with one parental species, there are very few intermediate individuals. This could be a mark of introgression.

The phenolic concentrations were obtained in milligrams gallic acid equivalent (GAE) per gram of dry weight (g DW), considering the moisture content at around 8%. TFC was measured with the aluminum chloride method (Lauranson-Broyer and Lebreton, 1993) adapted to a microplate, using quercetin, the most adequate standard based on raw material characteristics; prepared from 0 to 1400 μg/L (y = 0.0009 x + 0.0451, R2 = 0.9928). The flavonoid concentrations were expressed in milligrams quercetin equivalent (QE) per gram of dry weight (g DW).
